Ringer – 1×04 It’s Gonna Kill Me, But I’ll Do It (Guide and Review)

In New York, Bridget comes home with a bunch of bags from shopping. Andrew approaches her looking extremely angry…and calls her Bridget Kelly. He found her bag at the bus station, with Bridget’s name. He asks what she’s done with Siobhan, and he thinks Bridget let her drown. She tells him she never meant to hurt anyone, and he tells Bridget to apologize to “her” she turns around and Siobhan is standing there looking pale, drenched and dead.

It turns out it’s a dream, and Bridget wakes up and Andrew says she hasn’t been sleeping well for weeks. She tells him she wants to take a trip to the Hamptons by herself. He asks if she wants to really spend her birthday alone. She had completely forgotten her birthday was coming up, and he says since they are trying to amend things, they should spend it together at the Hamptons on the beach, like they used too. He tells her he’ll do all the planning and send a car service for her.

Bridget goes to the bus station where her stuff is, and grabs the duffel bag out of the locker…at the police station, Machado has been e-mailed the video of Bridget taking the duffel bag. Machado says the only way she could know where that bag is is if her sister told her…he says she knows where “Bridget” is and they are going to find her.

Bridget arrives in the Hamptons, and calls Malcolm to fill him in on what is happening and asks him to call her since she hasn’t heard form him in a while. She throws her duffel bag in a closet, when Andrew arrives at the house early.

They get to the beach, and she says she’ll pass on the boat, because just the thought makes her nauseous. Andrew receives a text, and he promises he won’t leave her like he did last year because of work. He shuts off his phone, and promises it’ll be the best year ever. She says it’s been a long time since anyone has done that for her.

They get back to the house but they hear something. Andrew grabs a metal poker and finds Andrew and Gemma in the bedroom . Gemma had thrown a vase at Andrew. They try to act as though they weren’t fighting, and Gemma wishes Bridget happy birthday. Henry suggest they just leave, but Andrew and Bridget ask them to please stay, so Henry goes out to get the bags.

Machado is filling others in on Siobhan/Bridget’s case. He says he can’t confront her about the bag because she can talk her way out of anything. Another officers tells Machado that Gemma and Henry are staying with Bridget and Andrew.

Bridget asks Gemma what the fight was about. She says Henry keeps telling them he’s not cheating, but Gemma knows he’s lying. Bridget tells her to fight for him if she loves him. Gemma tells Bridget how amazing she is as a friend…and says she’s like a sister.

Flashback to Siobhan and Bridget as kids looking at jewelry in a store window….they try to find something to buy but only have $20 from their mom for their birthday. Siobhan says she hates being poor…Siobhan suggest they just buy one and share. Each one gets it for a year and they alternate every birthday for the rest of their lives.

Gemma is approached by Machado. He says he want to ask her some questions…she asks why he would want to ask her about Siobhan, and he says, “no her twin sister Bridget Kelly”.

Gemma comes back to the house, and Bridget is talking to her, and then Gemma asks why she was never told her about Bridget (because Gemma still believes Bridget is Siobhan). She asks what did she tell Machado, and Gemma says nothing because she know nothing…how could she not tell her she has a sister after knowing her for 5 years. She says, Bridget did something unforgivable, and made bad choice after bad choice until Siobhan didn’t recognize her anymore and they aren’t a part of each other’s lives…she said she should have tried to help her, and when she finally got her back, she was gone. She tells Gemma that Andrew doesn’t know, and she met him after the fall out.

Flashback to six years ago in Nevada…Bridget shows up and Siobhan’s place, and Siobhan says, “I thought i made it clear, I didn’t want to see you.” Bridget offers her a cupcake and Siobhan lets her in. She notices Siobhan is moving…Siobhan tells Bridget she’s moving to New York, and she met someone. She says andrew loves her and she can start over….she grabs the necklace and throws it on the floor and tells Bridget she never wants it back. Bridget leaves hurt, and Siobhan begins to tear up.

In present day France, Siobhan is in a restaurant, about to light a cigarette but then stops herself (remembering she’s pregnant). Tyler shows up and she waves to him, but he goes off and sits with another woman. She tells Tyler she was trying to reach him, and he says he’s been busy with work. She asks him to speak for a minute…she apologizes for the other night, and says she likes him a lot. He walks away… she gets a call and says, “I hit a snag.”

Bridget goes in the closet to get her duffel bag, and Henry approaches her. He says all day he’s been thinking about the moment where they would sneak off…she asks him how many times does she have to tell him to it’s over. He ask what’s wrong with her, and doesn’t she remember how happy they used to be.

Flashback to one year ago. Siobhan and Andrew are sleeping together, and then afterwards they talk about how they get away from their spouses and, Siobhan tells him to hurry up and finish his book. On the table is a package. She opens it and inside is the necklace with a note that says “I miss you…B” She tells him it’s from an old friend, but she doesn’t want to talk about it.

Bridget tells Andrew she hasn’t forgot what they had, she’s ashamed, and doesn’t want to hurt Gemma or Andrew. He says they had plans together, and that all changed over night, and he doesn’t want sorry he wants her…she doesn’t say anything and he walks away.

On the beach Bridget throws the items from the duffel bag into the fire…clothes, her license, and the bag itself, but she keeps the letter Siobhan wrote to her inviting her to come and visit the Hamptons (from the pilot episode).

Siobhan is watching Tyler and the woman he is with…she is about to approach him when the hotel manager stops her. He asks her to meet him in his office to discuss payment for her room. Tyler steps in and lies about them having to go to a meeting. The manager apologizes for delaying her and didn’t realize she knew Tyler.

Tyler and Siobhan are at a cafe and he asks whats wrong with her. She tells him that this is her first trip to Paris, and her husband kept promising to take her, but when she left him she decided to go there on her own. She continues by telling him she had a plan, but it’s falling apart, someone drained her bank account, and she can’t ask for help because then her husband will know she’s here. She then tells him it’s her birthday, and he tells her they are going to go celebrate.

Machado says the boat was returned to the wrong slip the last time it was taken out, and when he checked the radio activity, from that day, he found something and presents Machado with a recording…

The group is toasting Bridget, and she tells them she doesn’t deserve all the special treatment. Bridget thinks back to the day she and Siobhan bought the necklace again…Andrew asks if she’s ok, and she asks to be excused.

She goes to read the letter form Siobhan saying thanks for sending back the necklace, she knows it’s not their birthday, but she hopes Bridget will wear it when she comes to visit. Bridget puts on the necklace, and says “happy birthday sis.” Henry enters the room, and she was surprised to know he knew about the necklace. He asks if it means she made up with her “old friend,” and then apologizes for confronting her the previous night and says he was drunk. He says she was so good at pretending with Andrew, that no one could ever tell she was having an affair, and that she used looked at him (Henry) like he was the only person in the world, but he noticed she now was giving that look to Andrew instead. He says he loves her, and if walking away is what he has to do, he’ll do it. He reminds her the baby is theirs though, and she ask him to have the patience to figure this out…Gemma is standing outside the door with a look of shock, because she has just overheard their conversation.

Gemma walks down the hall, and Bridget asks her if she’s coming. Henry walks her down the hall, and they get out to the beach, where they all sit down to dinner. Gemma keeps looking at everyone, still not believing what she just heard. Henry tries to grab her hand, and she pulls away and runs. Bridget goes after her..

In Paris Siobhan has just woken up. She looks around the room, and Tyler walks in with breakfast. He tells her he has to get to work, and gives her a croissant with a candle, because they never had cake yesterday. He tells her he spoke with the hotel manager, and says he put the charges to his company and she can stay indefinitely. He then walks to the bathroom to get his tie, and she rummages through his bag, and pulls out a folder, but hears him turn off the water, and hides it under the blankets. He heads off, and she pulls out the file and makes a call…the papers are signed Andrew Martin, and says her plans are back on and it’ll be easier than they thought.

Bridget is still trying to find Gemma and Machado walks in and tells her she has one more chance to come clean. He says she’s’ lying and knows Bridget was in the Hamptons with her (Siobhan). He shows her the recording from the coast guard saying she needed help (also from the Pilot when Bridget discovers Siobhan is no longer on the boat). He asks her what happened to cause her to make the call, and that they found the duffel bag. She says bridget told her what she was mixed up in, and says she was shocked and they fought, and she was afraid that Bridget might hurt her, and told bridget she never wanted to see her again. She said she found the duffel bag because she found the key to the locker, and hoped it would help her find Bridget, and she withdrew the money because she needed it. She tells him he can follow her all he wants, but he wont find Bridget. She walks off to continue looking for Gemma, and Machado goes through her phone, and sees Malcolm’s number in it

Bridget finds Gemma, and Gemma slaps her and says, “That’s for sleeping with my husband, you whore.”

She asks Bridget how she could do it, and Bridget says she feels horrible, but it’s not what it appears. Bridget tells her she’s not Siobhan, she’s Bridget!!!

Thoughts

This was by far the best episode yet!!! It was great to see some of the story lines finally start to move forward, and the episode started out great, and ended even better. I CANNOT wait for next week to see the consequences of Bridget’s actions, and what her “friends” will think of what she has done, especially because I didn’t think people would find out until much later in the season. I loved the flashbacks in the episode, showing how close the sisters were and how their relationship deteriorated over the years. I wasn’t sure Ringer was going to be strong enough to keep the audience it had, but hopefully this episode will convince people to stick around for more!!!
