In Chicago, Klaus and Stefan are sipping wine as Rebecca is getting a modern wardrobe, and complaining about the styles and music. Stefan goes to get some fresh air, when he sees Katherine across the street.
Elena is preparing chili for a Founder’s Party. Damon tells her she’s in denial about Stefan, and asks her why she’s still wearing his necklace if she’s not.
Katherine tells Stefan she knows that the necklace Stefan gave Elena is Rebecca’s necklace. Stefan says Klaus and Rebecca won’t find out, and he has a plan.
Jeremy is sleeping, when he rolls over, Anna is laying in the bed with him. She keeps telling him to say he hears her, and he tells her he can, and she says she’s been trying to get him to hear her for days.
The doorbells rings at the Gilbert house, and Caroline is there with Bonnie.
Sheriff Forbes and Damon go to the city jail, where she is holding Caroline’s dad, Bill, where he was holding Caroline. Damon bites into him to test for vervain, so they can compel him to forget and leave town.
Stefan gets back to Gloria’s bar, where Gloria is working on finding Rebecca’s necklace.
Elena’s (Rebecca’s) necklace starts to burn her. Bonnie takes it, and it causes a shock, and Gloria then says “I found it.”
—
Gloria says she doesn’t know exactly where it is, but she saw a girl with her friends. Stefan tells Rebecca and Klaus he’s hungry (to get them away from Gloria saying anymore), so they go to “eat.”
Bonnie found a spell to find out what kind of magic that was on the necklace. Caroline questions if Elena is planning to “switch Salvatores” and tells her that she can’t change Damon. Elena says that he’s just trying to help with Stefan. The necklace starts to float on it’s own, and Bonnie says it has it’s own magic.
Damon tells Alaric that the whole reason for the Founder’s parties is so that the council can discuss eliminating vampires. Alaric then tells Damon he should take a beat from Elena. Damon tells Alaric to mind his own business, and the Sheriff Forbes comes up and tells Damon they are going to start the meeting.
Anna explains to Jeremy that there is almost a push and pull effect that allows him to see her…she has to push her way through and sometimes he has to pull. She said she has warned him about Vicky because anytime Vicky appears she feels a darkness pushing through. As long as he’s not open too it, Vicky can’t come through. She touches his hand and apologizes because she says she knows he can’t feel it, but then they try again and touch hands.
Stefan gets back to Gloria’s, and she tells Stefan the girls with the necklace were talking about him. She says she didn’t tell Klaus because she wouldn’t actually help him with anything, but she wants the necklace for herself. He is about to attack her, but then she uses magic on him to cause him pain.
—
Gloria has tied up Stefan, and put a paralysis spell on him, and one to stop him from healing. She is draining his blood and essence, to get the information she is looking for.
Forbes is speaking at the meeting, and says there hasn’t been any incidents to speak of since Spring. With nothing to speak about, they end the meeting. Bill Forbes then walks in, and asks if Damon, Forbes and Carol think everyone on the counsel is clueless or just stupid about the fact that they have secrets.
Bonnie and Jeremy are in his room, and she tells him that she has been cut off from the dead witches she had been able to channel because she messed with the balance of nature by bringing him back to life. They are trying to do research on the necklace, by looking through old grimoires. All-of-a-sudden Anna appears and tells Jeremy the darkness is there, and all the books in the room start on fire. Bonnie uses magic to put out the fires.
Gloria begins to see visions of Elena, and sees that he loves her and that she is the doppelganger that Klaus wants. Katherine appears, and stabs Gloria in the neck.
Caroline, Alaric and Elena see that Bill is at the party, Caroline goes up to Tyler’s room so he doesn’t see her. Alaric and Elena head out, and Damon catches up to tell them that Bill is impervious to compulsion and threatened to “out” him. He says that Bill wants control over the council and and to put vervain in the town water supply. Damon says he’s going to go kill Bill, and Alaric tells him it’s not going to happen, so Damon snaps his neck (he’s not permanently dead though because he has a ring that makes him unkillable by the hands of anything supernatural) and goes back to the house.

Katherine tells Stefan she understand the key to his plan is Rebecca because she’s the weak link and still in love with Stefan…rather than pretend to like her, because Klaus will be able to tell…he needs to get closer to Klaus to make Rebecca feel left out and want him even more. She also tells him that she knows he has another reason for going with Klaus, besides wanting to keep him away from Mystic Falls. He reveals to her that he knew Klaus and Rebecca in the 20s, and they were running from a hunter. Katherine tells him she had heard stories of his existence centuries ago, and Stefan says he wants to know why originals who can’t be killed would be afraid of a vampire hunter. Katherine tells Stefan that if he’s making a move against Klaus she’s wants in, but he tells her he’s doing it alone, and if she wants a diabolical partner in crime she’ll have to look elsewhere. He picks up Gloria’s body and leaves.
Tyler gets home, and Caroline is still in his room hiding from her dad who is still at the house as well. He jokingly offers to beat him up, but Caroline says that in the end it’s still her dad…they are about to “make love” and Elena calls and says it’s an emergency…
Bill tells Damon, that he’s been training himself for years to resist vampire compulsion, and tells Damon his compulsion technic is lazy. Damon asks why he doesn’t just expose everyone, and Bill says he would never expose his daughter to “those morons.” Bill says he knew what he was risking by staying, but thinks that Damon would never kill the Sheriff’s ex-husband. Damon then charges at him and starts feeding on him.
—
Damon says he’s not going to kill Bill, but “find pleasure in perfect little moments like this.” Caroline charges in and knocks Damon off her father. Caroline offers Bill her blood, but he refuses and she forces him to feed on it to heal. She grabs her dad and runs just after Elena walks in. Elena and Damon argue, and she tells him to stop trying to be a monster, and he says he’s not Stefan so she should stopping trying to turn him into Stefan and leaves.
Jeremy is cleaning up and Bonnie steps out to get a vacuum to clean the ashes. Anna appears and he tells her she can’t keep popping up when Bonnie’s around, and she says she can only pop up when Jeremy is thinking about her. She realizes that’s why he hasn’t told Bonnie, because he still cares for her. He then says good-bye to Anna and causes her to disappear, while she’s asking him to not let her go.
He walks into the room with Bonnie, and he decides he needs to tell her what’s been going on with him lately. Anna watches on, crying, but he can’t hear her, and she sobs saying she’s all alone.
Stefan is about to open one of the Original’s coffin, when Rebecca walks in. She says Nick (Klaus) went to check on Gloria. Stefan asks why Rebecca doesn’t unstake her family, and Rebecca says because Klaus would kill her. Stefan then questions her on who is after them, she says that even the Klaus family is scarred of things, but she can’t talk about it. She then tells him that Nick told her about Elena, and that he’s only with Klaus because he saved Damon. She tells him she thinks he admires that Stefan would sacrifice anything for family, but not to tell Nick she told him that. Stefan is about to walk away, and she pulls him back for a kiss. She asks if he’ll ever love anyone the way he loved Elena, and he says “one day, maybe” but she tells him his kiss gave away that he was lying. Klaus returns, and Rebecca tells him something is wrong, and she can sense Stefan isn’t with them, because he was asking about “Michael.” Klaus charges at Stefan…

At the Salvatore’s place, Alaric finally wakes up.
Elena and Caroline talk about Damon, and Elena says she was wrong for trying to change Damon. Caroline tells her to just admit that she’s attracted to him. Elena says she can’t admit it, because if she does, what does that say about her for liking someone like that. Caroline says it just says that she’s human. Caroline sees Bill, and approaches him. He tells her he’s going home before someone kills him, and thanks her for rescuing him and calls her “My Caroline.” She tells him she’s going to be ok, but he’s tells her because she’s a vampire, he doens’t think she’ll ever be ok again. He then gets in his car, leaving Caroline standing there.
Alaric is talking to Sheriff Forbes and Carol Lockwood, asking for a spot on the Council as representative to the Gilbert family. They tell him that’s not how it works, but he says one has a vampire child, and the other a werewolf, someone needs to represent the people who they are supposed to be protecting. He then tells them he’ll see them at the next meeting, and walks out.
Elena meets up with Bonnie at The Grill. Bonnie gives back her necklace, but hadn’t figured out anything about it yet. Bonnie tells Elena that Jeremy is seeing Anna and Vicki. A waitress walks up and all-of-a-sudden Elena is gone…it was Katherine
Katherine shows up at Damon’s door, and tells him she’s just looking for a partner in crime. She asks him to “hit the road” with her, and shows him she got the necklace, and he agrees to go with her, even though she doesn’t say where they are going.
Klaus has knocked Stefan out, and he wakes up in the back of a truck, and asks for a chance to explain. Klaus tells Stefan that Rebecca has supernatural instincts, and she thinks that Stefan is holding onto something from his old life. Klaus opens the back of the truck, and reveals they are in Mystic Falls.
Thoughts:
Overall a pretty good episode, I loved the scene between Anna and Jeremy where she reveals how she is able to come through from the otherside (but I’m a big fan of Anna so maybe I’m biased). You can’t help but feel awful for Anna when she says “I’m all alone” when Jeremy decides to shut her out and she watches he and Bonnie while crying. I really like Rebecca for some reason as well…she comes off as kind of a bratty character I think, but she’s not annoying. Since Klaus takes his family coffins everywhere, I’m guessing by the end of the season we will be seeing more of the family, and I’m also curious who Michael is…my guess is he’s a part of the Klaus family, seeing how he’s been chasing them for centuries and who do they really have to be afraid of besides other Originals.
One thing I’m kind of having an issue with is Alaric constantly declaring himself Jeremy and Elena’s guardian. Though he stood up to Damon for Elena, he really doesn’t do much else for them besides sleep at their place. I don’t know what I expect him to be doing for them, but now he’s declaring himself the Gilbert representative on the Council, and by no means do I feel that he has earned that place, no matter how convincing he tried to sound to Forbes and Carol, because even though they may have supernatural children, I’m guessing most of the other founding families do not, therefore they would still be representing the humans (not that I don’t think that everyone on the council has their own agendas).
Preview of 3×05 “The Reckoning”

Thank u for posting these coemtnms. I am so tired of reading articles and people saying what’s wrong with Stefan ? Damon is what is wromg with Stefan. No one on the show has even mentioned the fact that the only reason Stefan changed was to save his brother, and he continued on that path to keep Elena safe. He gave up literally everything, even the humanity he has worked so hard to preserve, and the love of his life and reason for living, Elena, just to save his selfish brother who has never even said thank you. Stefan is still my hero, watching Paul Wesley’s phenomenal performances this season has been a treat. I have never seen an actor say so much with his eyes and face without saying a word. Season 3 is a tribute to the sheer talent of Paul Wesley.
