The Big Bang Theory – 5×04 – The Wiggly Finger Catalyst (Guide and Review)

The guys are playing Dungeons and Dragons, and Leonard ask Howard how the wedding plans are going, and Howard says he spent 5 hours doing gift registry the previous night. Raj is upset because everyone has someone but him.

The girls are at Penny’s, Amy asks Bernadette how the wedding planning is going, and also asks to be a bridesmaid. Bernadette tells her Raj cried while looking at cakes, and she might try to set him up with a married woman at work whose husband has serious congestive heart failure and “a little birdie told [her] he’s in the placebo group.”

The guys are at the Cheesecake Factory, and Sheldon declares that he’s going to make all his decisions based on his Dungeons and Dragons dice. Penny walks up and asks Howard to come with him. They come back to the table with Penny’s friend Emily who is deaf (Howard signs for her and tells Raj what she’s saying). Emily asks him to text her and then goes back with her family.

At a coffee shop Raj and Howard wait for Emily. She arrives, and Raj keeps trying to think of things to tell her that will make her like him (of course being ridiculous most of the time).

They leave the coffee shop, and Emily says she hopes she can see Raj again, and kisses him goodbye.

Sheldon (now with a mustache due to the dice) says using the D&D dice to make trivial decisions has freed up his mind to accomplish more meaningful things (like co-author two papers). Penny asks if Raj is out with Emily again, and Leonard says they’ve gone out every night for a month. Howard then says that he bought her a pair of diamond earrings and leased her a car. Leonard suspects she’s taking advantage of him, but Penny says she wouldn’t do that because she’s deaf, and handicapped people are always nice. Sheldon tells them that the Koothrappali’s are “Richie Rich, rich.” Howard then tells them he also paid off her credit cards, so he and Penny decide to say something to her.

They find her at the gym, and Penny tells him that Raj is nieve when it comes to dating, and she’s concerned that Emily is unintenionally taking advantage of him. Howard gets distracted by some girls at the gym and stops translating, and then straight out asks if she’s a gold digger causing Emily to curse him out and leave.

Raj goes to Penny’s apartment and yells at Penny for ambushing Emily. She asks him what kind of relationship is it, if he’s buying things for her in exchange for sex. Raj thinks Penny’s just jealous, and then he leaves.

At Raj’s apartment he gives Emily a Ruby necklace, and then he gets a video call from his parents. They tell him Penny told them what was happening and if he doesn’t break it off with Emily he’s cut off from their money. He tells them he chooses love, and his father says love doesn’t love, and hangs up. Raj tells Emily he chose her, but now they’ll have to return the car and necklace, they hug and Emily makes a face.

Raj goes over to Penny’s again, where she comforts him because Emily broke up with him.

At the Cheesecake Factory, Raj is back to moping about being alone, and Sheldon is still using his dice. Penny brings them the bill and the other guys run off leaving Raj to pay it. Penny tells him to not be stingy with the tip because they all know he’s loaded now.

Thoughts:
Not an awful episodes, but not one of my favorites…not very many moments that made me laugh.
