Melissa wakes up in Nick’s bed with a headache. He starts to kiss her, and she kicks him to the floor. She rolls over and we can see the demon worm traveling down her back.
—
Cassie and her Grandma, Jane, talk about Heather getting hit by the car, and Jane tells her it’s odd that Heather would be in their neighborhood after being homebound for years, and also that it seems natural that Cassie would find the group of kids she did to be friends with since their parents were so close.
Melissa gets to school and is twitching oddly, and yells at the principal, Dawn, for almost running into her.
Diana tells Cassie she can’t tell her grandma about being a witch, because it’s obvious their families don’t want them to know about their magic. She then tells Cassie that in her book it talks about the elders, who they assume to mean the generation before them, being able to punish the circle by taking away their powers.
Dawn and Charles meet in her office at school and discuss Heather. She tells him the more the kids dig the more stuff they’ll get into that they won’t be able to protect them from. He tells her to meet at the boat at 10 and not to miss it. She then tells him to leave.
Faye is outside her mom’s office, and Diana tells her that their parents are dating.
Melissa is struggling at her locker and falls to the gorund in pain. Nick finds her, and all of a sudden she is normal again (the demon has taken over). She tells him that she found her families book of shadows, but they have to go to the woods and it’ll be their secret.
They go out to the woods and are digging, but not finding anything. She forces him to continue when he says he’s done, and then he manages to find a box.
—
Jane and Cassie have awkward small talk at dinner, but then they start talking about Cassie’s mom, and Jane tells Cassie that her mom never came to her with her problems, but she shouldn’t make the same mistake. Cassie gets a text from Melissa to meet at the abandoned house.
Melissa and Nick are at the house and Melissa tells him not to touch the box, because it won’t open without a spell. Faye arrives to do the spell, and Nick gets mad that she tells Faye about the book and Melissa says it’s just for her and Faye.
Dawn arrives at Charles’ boat.
Diana and Adam just finished dinner together, and Diana says sometimes she wishes it was just the two of them again, and sometimes even before they found the book. They begin eating whipped cream off of each other.
Cassie then shows up at the house, and Melissa reveals she needs to tell the whole circle for the spell to work. Something inside the suitcase begins to move, which freaks them out, and then they see the demon go across Melissa’s forehead.
Adam and Diana are about to make love when they get a text from Cassie saying they are in trouble.
Faye, Nick and Cassie try to figure out a way to help Melissa. They walk over to Melissa, and Nick hits her in the back of the head knocking her out as Diana and Adam walk in.
—
Melissa regains consciousness and they hold her down, then she stops fighting, and appears normal again. She tries to convince Nick to untie her, but he can tell she’s lying, and Melissa begins fighting again. Cassie says she knows how to fix it.
Charles and Dawn are doing a spell to use their crystal to find the five other crystals that were part of their circle. The spell begins to work, but then the crystal’s power is completely gone, so it’s useless.
Cassie arrives back home and tells Jane they need help and she knows about the family’s history as witches.
—
Melissa gets free and holds a scissor to Nick’s throat. She tells them to begin the spell, and the lock begins to open when Jane and Cassie arrive. Jane re-locks the case and she puts one of the crystals in Melissa’s face which causes her to fall to the ground unconscious as they get ready to do a spell.
Jane is about to do the spell when she realizes Melissa isn’t posessed anymore. She holds the crystal up to everyone to find the demon again, and it has moved to Nick. The case opens again, and Jane manages to get it closed again, and Nick runs off.
—
Jane tells them there are demons in the case in the form of snakes, and the only way to destroy a demon is to drown it or burn it. They light the case on fire and the demons scream as they die.
The demon gains full control of Nick.
Jane then tells them that demons need a human to be fully active, and witches are the most powerful host.
Nick calls Adam and tells him to bring the case or he’ll burn down the Boathouse with Adam’s dad inside.
Dawn is at the Boathouse, and Nick sits next to her and tells her he’s the demon she summoned named, Abaddon. He tells her he wants the circle, and he needs a new body and will take hers. They walk outside the Boathouse, and she dials Charles so he can hear what’s going on and Charles rushes to her. He finds them and punches out Nick. Dawn tells Charles the only way to save Nick is to drown the demon.
The circle arrives at the Boathouse and begin searching for Nick.
Charles struggles but finally manages to drown the demon. They hear Cassie and Jane coming and leave Nick on the shore.
—
Melissa wakes up and Faye fills her in on what happened. Faye gets a phone call and begins crying.
Dawn and Charles are in their car and Dawn is trying to assure him that they did the right thing, but Charles says it’s never right that he killed a child (Nick).
Adam sits with Diana, and the police are saying that Nick died when he hit his head.
Cassie asks Jane to tell her what happened the night of the fire and why her mom left the town, but she says she doesn’t know why. She tells Cassie that the darkness is why they tried to keep the magic a secret.
Thoughts:
Overall a pretty good episode. I was surprised they killed off Nick, because now the circle is broken and they will need to find a replacement…though I don’t know how easy it’ll be for them to convince Faye they need to bind their powers again. I was also surprised that the writers didn’t work harder to redeem Nick’s character before he died, because they kind of left with him appearing to be a jerk. Though he has shown he cares for Melissa, I still got the sense that he wasn’t fully committed to their relationship no matter what it was. I feel like this isn’t the last we’ll see of him though, so maybe that’s why it feels like their are loose ends to his character.
