Barney is running down the street, when a man calls him into an alley…there are two men chasing him, but then the man that called him down the alley holds a gun to him and tells him to give him the amulet. Barney knocks him out and hears a kid calls for help. Barney finds a little boy hanging off the edge of a sky scrapper, and he offers the kid his ducky tie that he isn’t supposed to take off for a year. He gets the kid up, and then a bird steals the tie. Barney tells the group at the bar that it’s a true story, and then Lily walks in with the tie having pulled it out of the trash.

Future Ted tells his kids that you haven’t truly lived until someone has put up a sign up saying not to do something because of you. Kevin asks the group about a sign out front that says no bogey boarding, and Ted tells them about Hurricane Irene on Aug. 26, 2011.
Flashback to Ted telling the group that a boy scout is always prepared, and he bought them survival bags, and rented a car so they can all go up to his place in West Chester to be safe. Barney tells him they need to stop at his place first.
They get to Barney’s place, and Barney tells them they they need to get their drink on and they are staying at his place. The whole group tells Ted it’s unnecessary to get away, and Marshall says he can’t take the chance…
Marshall flashbacks to when his health insurance expired, and it made him extremely cautions, and worried about death, imaging crazy things like getting attacked by a bear. He tells Lily for the next two weeks she has to protect him.
Present day, Barney begs Marshall and Lily to let him take off the ducky tie, because it’s difficult wearing it at work, but Marshall tells him he can’t.
They get back to the Hurricane story, with everyone at Barney’s apartment, and then the news comes on and the group becomes terrified by what they see the hurricane is doing, and they all want to get out of the city.

At the bar, Barney offers to give Marshall an extra slap to his slap bet, if he can take the tie off. Marshall is very tempted, and Barney says he can get Marshall to use up his last slap that night, and they say game on…
The whole group is getting ready to leave, but Barney says he’s not going. Ted gets a call from his mom and steps out. Marshall says he needs to use the bathroom, and then they are leaving, but tells Lily she needs to come with him for his safety, but she refuses. Barney gets a call from his dad, and convinces Barney he needs to leave. Robin still isn’t convinced the hurricane is that serious, but Barney says she’s just jealous her dad hasn’t called her. Ted comes back inside and says everyone is going but Barney is being left behind.
In the present, Barney is still trying to convince Marshall to use his last slap.
Flashback and Ted says Barney can’t come because he called him a name. A woman named Mia walks in, and Ted says he met her in the hall and she is taking Barney’s spot in the car, and Barney says he’s proud of Ted, but he’s still coming. Lily says Barney can have her spot, because she needs time away from Marshall, because he hasn’t left her alone at all. Robin gets a call from her dad, and Barney said he knew she wanted that…he acutally was the one to call her.
Lily calls Mia a floosey, so then Mia says she’s not going if Lily comes, causing a chain of people not going if someone else is going, but then Ted says he’s going alone. The news comes on and a report says that the time for evacuation is over, and they should stay inside until Sunday. Ted says not to panic, but then the power goes out.

Present day, Marshall is trying so hard not to slap Barney, and Kevin makes Marshall realize there is a reason Barney suddenly wants to the tie off so badly, and he realizes it’s because Barney is going to be meeting Nora’s parents and he wants to impress them.
Flashback to Barney’s apartment, and Marshall has prepared a bubble bath for Lily…and it’s revealed that that’s the night Lily got pregnant.
Flashback to the group having gone to the bar, but it’s closed. Future Ted says an oak tree had fallen into his house in West Chester, that probably would have crushed them. Marshall finds an object to bogey board on, and ended up through MacLaren’s front window.
Present day, Marshall tells Barney he can take off the tie since they made a baby in his tub, in exchange for three additional slaps…Barney takes off the tie, and Marshall uses two slaps right away, leaving him with two more for another time.
Robin and Barney are in a cab together, and Robin asks if he told the rest of the group about what happened after they left MacLarens the day of the hurricane, when they almost kissed, but then Robin’s dad called before they did kiss, they agree that it was good it didn’t happen, but then they end up kissing in the cab.
