Stefan calls Klaus, and tells him Mikael has been daggered. Klaus tells him to explain what happened.
One hour previously, Stefan, Damon and Elena figure out a lie to say how they managed to stick a dagger in Mikael, to lure Klaus back to Mystic Falls. Mikael tells them that they will actually stick a dagger in him to convince Klaus he is dead, and that he has a stake that can kill Klaus from the white ash tree that had burned down. He tells them he won’t say where the stake is, so he knows that they will take the dagger out when it comes time, and tells Elena she will have to stick the dagger in, because a vampire dies if he daggers another vampire.
Current time, Stefan tells Klaus to come and see Mikael’s dead body. Klaus says he wants to talk to Rebecca, and she lies and tells him it’s true that Mikael has been daggered. Klaus tells her he is on his way back, and hangs up. Elena pulls the dagger out.

Rebecca is wating and Mikael comes back to life, and she tells him she doesn’t want to hear anything from him, because he made them into killers and destroyed the family when he turned them into vampires.
Bonnie and Elena discuss homecoming and Bonnie’s break-up with Jeremy.
Damon and Elena prepare for Klaus’ return. Stefan walks in and says he’s going to homecoming to keep an eye on Elena, but they have to keep Stefan out of the plan, so he isn’t compelled to tell Klaus anything.
Tyler and Caroline are decorating for the dance, and Tyler tells her that Rebecca knows some people who like to be fed on, and asks Caroline to go with him, but she tells him no angrily. He then tells her that Matt is going to the dance with Rebecca, which makes Caroline even more angry.
Elena walks in on Rebecca getting ready for the dance, and she tells Elena it’s her first high school dance. She also tells her she doesn’t want to know what the plan is, she just wants to stop running and wants Mikael to kill Klaus and be done with it. She then breaks down over guilt for helping in getting Klaus killed. Elena then gives Rebecca back her mother’s (the original witch) necklace back. She puts the necklace on her, and then drives a dagger through her back.

Elena says it had to be done because Rebecca would never fully be on their side.
Caroline is freaking out because the school gym flooded. Tyler moves the homecoming to his house.
Matt arrives at the Salvatore house for Rebecca, and Elena explains what happened.
Caroline and Bonnie arrive at Tyler’s, and Caroline doesn’t understand how he could have thrown a party together so quickly.
Stefan appraoches Tyler, and Tyler tells him that Klaus is the one who planned it, but it’s not a party, it’s a wake.
Klaus is up on stage, and thanks everyone for coming…

Elena and Matt arrive at the dance together. Caroline approaches them them to tell them Klaus is there, and they pretend not to know he was coming.
Klaus tells Stefan it’s going to be his father’s funeral that night. He asks Stefan where Rebecca is, but he says he has no idea, and then Klaus tells him to bring Mikael to him. Stefan says he will in exchange for his freedom, but Klaus says not until he see’s Mikael is dead, and his weapon destroyed.
Stefan arrives at the Salvatore house, and tells them Klaus isn’t coming, they have to go to him. Mikael attacks and feeds from him, leaving Stefan unconscious on the floor.
Klaus asks Tyler how many people he actually knows at the party, and Tyler doesn’t recognize many of the people. Klaus tells him that many people there are hybrids, and if he is attacked, they will attacked back.

Tyler pulls Caroline inside to talk to her, and ask her what the plan for Klaus is. Caroline tells him she knows nothing, and wouldn’t trust him enough to tell him if she did. Tyler then injects her with vervain, and knocks her out.
Klaus tells Elena he knows they have something planned, but they won’t succeed.
Damon arrives at Tyler’s house, and a hybrid guard tells him he’s not invited, so Damon rips out his heart.
Matt walks in and Tyler tells him he needs to get Caroline out of the house.
Tyler heads downstairs, and Damon grabs him. They begin fighting, but then Bonnie walks in and knocks Tyler out with magic, before Damon kills him with the white ash stake.
A woman approaches Klaus, and tells him that Mikael is looking for him. He tells her to move everyone out back while he talks to Mikael, and tells a man named Tony that he knows what to do.
Mikael isn’t able to come inside, and hybrids begin to surround him. Mikael tells Klaus that his hybrids are still part vampire so he can compel them. The woman who told Klaus Mikael was there earlier, then gives Elena to Mikael.

Mikael threatens to kill Elena, and that will end Klaus’ abliltiy to make new hybrids, if he doesn’t come out to fight. Klaus says he’s bluffing, and tells him to kill her, because then he looses his leverage. Mikael stabs her and she falls to the floor, which surprises Klaus, and Damon attacks him. Elena, who is actally Katherine gets up and throws a vervain bombs at the hybribs. Stefan saves Klaus, and Klaus gets the white ash stake and manages to stake Mikael and he bursts into flames. Klaus tells Stefan he’s earned his freedom, and removes the compulsion and tells him he’s free.
Caroline wakes up at home, and Tyler walks in her bedroom. He tries to explain to her he was protecting her, and that there’s nothing he can do about Klaus being his sire, and he’s happier as a hybrid because he doesn’t have to go through the painful werewolf change anymore. He asks her to understand but he walks out before she can say she can’t.
Damon is shouting about Stefan saving Klaus. Elena tells him they’ll get through it. Damon says they aren’t getting Stefan back, and Elena says they’ll have to let him go then. Katherine calls to says she’s running away to save herself from Klaus.
Stefan is in the car, and she says to him “he doesn’t know where it went wrong.” She then pulls over to let him out.
Flashback to earlier in the night, and Katherine gives Stefan a bloodbag. We also see that Klaus told Katherine that if he dies, then the hybrids will kill Damon. Katherine had convinced Stefan that he has to be able to care…either they kill Klaus and Damon dies, or they mess with the plan to bring him down.
Katherine tells Stefan she did it for his humanity, because she liked the old him better, and sometimes even if she turns it off, her own humanity creeps back in. Stefan says he can’t regain all his humanity. She tells him if he doesn’t, he won’t be able to do what she needs him to do…get mad.
Klaus tries to get a hold of Rebecca to tell her Mikael is dead. Stefan calls Klaus, to tell him he is going to get revenge…Stefan has taken all the family coffins, and tells Klaus he will never see his family again if he comes after anyone Stefan cares about.
